Social Media – Explained

Before you look at the picture, here is something I posted in July – when G+ was introduced.

Now that it is a little over 6 months, guess this picture pretty much summarizes where Google + stands in terms how people view different social media platforms.

Ha..Ha..!

A Rock(ies)y adventure

Two days after we safely landed at the Windsor airport and crossed the border back to Michigan through the tunnel, one question comes to my mind as I begin to collate the happenings of my past few days. “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”.

Everyone who gets to see the Canadian Rockies will agree that the most beautiful stretch of this long mountain range lies in Canada. The rock formations and the general landscape of this humongous range varies so much between BC and New Mexico, yet somehow the stretch in Canada, especially in the Alberta region by far as the highest density of glacier, fresh lake formations, which when combined with beautiful crevasses and crevices, fir and spruce trees, provide the most picturesque capture for a camera hungry traveler or the near perfect challenge for the adrenalin junkie who wants to bike, hike, ski or climb. For a recreational traveler, this may not be the ideal place but still you will enjoy a ride on the gondola (not the Venetian inference here) as you whistle past valleys or when you take a relaxing boat cruise on blue/green/turquoise/aqua water.

We did our share of hikes – almost 5-6 a day for the entire duration we stayed. The shortest one being a km while the longest hike being about 11 km. The most adventurous being the one when we underestimated a trail and ended up scaring a 7 year old with thunderstorms and with a close encounter with Caribous. Looking back, we are proud that as a seven year old, he got to experience what very few boys of his age would ever get to do. More importantly, our attempt was really to show the real world which is far different from the make believe world where we live in for 300 odd days every year. We have been successful in doing this since our son has been 2 months old. A trip every year to the wilderness for as long as we could afford. And we hope to keep this up as long as we can, not just for him but also for us. It is an energizing experience to say the least.

Here are some snapshots that may give a feel for what is hidden behind this natural treasure.

Donut Effects

Today is World Donuts Day. In case you didn’t know. To commemorate this important day in our calendars, I decided to conduct a survey on the effects of Donuts on everyday America. To make my survey a little simpler, I came up with what I thought were the top 10 areas where Donuts have had major effects. So here are the results of this very important survey.

Happy Donuts Day!

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions..

It may be too early. It may be really too early. But I just couldn’t avoid feeling a bit dazed looking at the Republican Presidential hopefuls for 2012.

I am sure the Republican primaries and caucuses will be very interesting to watch as the final field of candidates starts its campaign and as candidates continue to drop out one by one before the convention.

In that context, I thought I would pick the most prominent hopefuls that are in the fray as of now (there may be 4-6 more hopefuls whom I have not included because they are not too prominent yet) and create a decision tree. And just to add some humor, I have tried to list the Top 3 things that come to one’s mind when they think of a particular candidate.

Suggestions to add more spice to this are welcome.

The wolfpack

Phil wakes up..He is severely hungover. It takes him a few seconds to actually figure out that he has no idea where he is.

Alan wakes up. Also with a hangover. Runs into a strange animal inside the room/house they were sleeping till at that moment. Stu wakes up and he soon realizes that something on his face has been compromised. And..then they all accept the fact that they are hungover and don’t remember a thing from the previous night. They set out to figure out what exactly happened.

They try to recreate previous night’s happenings through a series of clues they obtain on their own or through others who they meet.

Wait! They are missing one of their companions. He must be kidnapped. Right? Sure.

Bring on that crazy Asian guy. Mr. Chow. Yes, he is weird. But he can make you laugh with his antics. He does just that. Of course, he gets chased by his own set of enemies while Phil, Alan and Stu try to rescue their kidnapped companion. Alan continues to charm himself while annoy others with his extreme sense of self self-righteousness, which doesn’t impress the rest one bit. Not one bit.

All this, while Stu quite shamefully is running late for his own wedding and as Stu’s fiancee, Phil’s wife and Doug’s wife angrily wait for their guys in a hotel.

If this plot reminds of you of “The Hangover”, don’t worry – this is exactly the same plot for “The Hangover II” as well. Just that the plot unfolds in Thailand versus Las Vegas, as it did in the former.

But if you are like me, a fan of the original, then I am sure you will be able to go home satisfied. The original (Part I) pretty much created a new genre of comedy movies for the decade. Which makes the job of Part II all the more difficult. If it doesn’t fit into the same genre, then most fans could trash it. If it doesn’t follow a similar plot, then the director runs the risk of resetting his fans’ expectations. So, I am pretty convinced that Todd Philips took the most logical route and delivered, what I thought was a worthy sequel to the original.

Certainly, the original would be ranked higher than the sequel by most fans of the franchise. But that doesn’t take away any credit Part II truly deserves.

“I wish monkeys could skype….May be, one day”!  - Zach Galifianakis, as Alan, utters the funniest line of the movie..

Every time I come to Orlando, I notice that there is nothing much that has changed. But then, for a Michigander, the sight of Orlando is itself a welcome change.

No comments..

I will give some benefit of doubt to the guy who came up with the idea. May be he really wanted to mix some good message related to road safety along with his usual frantic call to the fellow citizens of his town. Now if this whole honking thing itself is as ‘unevolved’ an idea as Donald Trump pointing out that Robert De Niro is not necessarily an Einstein, then the way the Church Billboard guy phrased it, it sure makes Texting while driving a sure shot method to get to God quickly. This is from a church in Alabama.

While I was ready to publish this post, I had a crazy idea to do some research on my new found ‘theme’. So the first think I did was to go to Google. Then my first step brought me this…

I actually found this church through Google..

Then more…
