Kodiya Ethadhae

This is my crazy attempt to create a Chennai Gaanaa style song. You know how you act whimsical in the spur of a moment. This was one of those moments for me. I decided to work on a scratch tune Sunday night in spite of my bronchitis. I managed to sing the song without much trouble and it was only after the final mixing I realized that I didn’t sweat much at all for this song. Writing was easy (even the lyrics), Singing was not that difficult and the whole product was fun to make.

If not anything, it was worth the ‘tripp’!

Here you go – Listen to “Kodiya Ethadhae” (The title is just a coincidence if you know what I mean..)

Also, some trivia on the making of the song can be found here.

Besides fantasizing about being a Peter Gibbons at least for a couple of days at my work, I think I have a long way to go to realize some of the other fantasies. But like any ambitious man out there, I will get there! Note: All views expressed in this blog are mine alone and have got nothing to do with my company Cogent IBS, Inc., its employees or any of its affiliates.

  1. How did i miss this song? Having your image in mind, seeing your other songs, its unbelievable to see this side of you! Very nice, i liked it very much…catchy tune..But seriously lyrics, enakku etho purinthum puriyaamalum irukkuthu….Typical gaana lyrics are like that ..I liked the chennai style!…you had the mood to make Music, even when you were not well!Oh..My!That too you have come up with a nice madras dance beat!! Did you take lot of cough syrup?!!( just joking!)…so you did everything on your own! what fun! good adventure…youngsters will definitely dance for this gaana!…will be a hit in Tamil films now! No exaggerations! its really catchy…

  2. Being sick actually forced me to go spend some more time in my studio..:-) Like I said, this song kind of worked out on its own..with not much effort. I can always go back and tweak a few things here & there from a sound engineering stand point, but I kind of enjoyed doing the song..and actually enjoy listening to it too. Talking about “hooks”, I came up with the hook first once the style was decided and everything else flowed.
As for lyrics, don’t expect too much from it ..All the phrases have to be understood sort of in a disjoint fashion. There is no one theme running through the song except that it is being sung by a Chennai guy.
Kodiya Ethadhae has a political connotation…”Auto vudathae”..”thanniya thedathae..” have a very Chennai specific humor..if you know what I mean.
Thanks for making me feel good (will be a hit in Tamil films..)..!
