The Commoditizing of God – Part II

Interestingly, a few days after I updated the blog with my last post, I read in the news about the case file of Nityananda (from hereon referred simply as “scumbag of a human being” or SOAHB) being reopened. This time it was because of another woman coming out against him and now it is known that this was actually the woman who planted the video camera in his room to capture what can now be called the notorious Nityananda-Ranjitha video. Even though the SOAHB has been in news recently for a totally different reason (Madurai Adheenam), the latest one to rock his boat has caught my attention for one reason. I know this woman personally. And more importantly, I know her husband even better. Both of them are wonderful human beings and I am sad to see/hear what they had to go through of which I had no idea till recently.

I am glad she has come out strong and has had the courage to speak openly about being a cult victim. The first step to stop being any victim is actually realizing you are a victim. In many instances – be it in a Guru-Shishya environment or in a Master-Slave environment, the student or the slave enables the victimization process by showing his/her emotional weak side to his/her Guru/Master. These Gurus and Masters who have a psychological problem of their own, do whatever it takes to earn that kind of a trust with these soon-to-be-victims because building that kind of a trust is critical before you can target your prey and exploiting them.

The first video that smeared the first stain on SOAHB’s reputation came out during the DMK regime in Tamil Nadu and it was SUN TV that aired it first. Naturally, the other side (AIADMK) played the “Oh, you are religious and that’s why DMK hates you” card so subtly at SOAHB, that in spite of hard evidence, the SOAHB was left alone to walk free. He quite expectedly politicized the issue and took refuge under Amma’s massive shadow (no pun intended).

After all, AIADMK is responsible for letting Jayendra Saraswathi walk (till date) as a free man in spite of clear evidences linking him to a murder. So, what’s new and what’s surprising?

Anyways, that political digression notwithstanding, the point of this post other than stressing on the fact how commoditizing of god continues to haunt us in different ways, centuries after centuries, is to show my support to this friend of mine whose status as a victim of the SOAHB alone, deserves to spread this message across as much as possible for the simple reason that the next time you know of someone who potentially is going through such emotional weakness, you still have the time to stop them from being a victim of someone.

Here is a video that should drive home the point and convince you why such scumbags don’t deserve a second chance.
